My Practice

My approach to therapy is balanced and collaborative, using your existing strengths and coping strategies, and bringing additional therapeutic processes to the table to help you find the balance you need. We find balance in three areas, thought/emotion, physical health, and spiritual belief.

  • We will work to find increased awareness, and a grounded centeredness that is based on acceptance of reality. This way of being leads to increased self-control, self-empowerment, and self-confidence as the result of your deliberate choices. I provide care and treatment for many conditions, including (but not limited to): Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, grief, anger management, anxiety, panic attacks, adjustment issues, communication challenges and sex/intimacy issues.
  • Your physical health and level of self-care can affect the balance of your life. We explore possible physical maladies—including illness, injury, poor sleep, or poor nutrition, etc. - - which might contribute to a loss of psychological balance. We’ll work together on any necessary medical referrals.
  • Whether you are devoutly religious, a seeker of spiritual growth, an atheist - - or somewhere in-between I respect your path. I believe all paths leading to God are good. I know for certain that there are many spiritual and religious teachings that significant positive psychological value and you don’t have to believe in God to benefit from them. I will treat your beliefs with respect.

"In a field as saturated as psychology in San Diego, I was so grateful to have found Erik, a truly gifted therapist. Erik's unique background and superior credentials have provided him with the innate wisdom as well as professional skill set to provide thoughtful support and guidance through some of the most trying issues I've faced. I really appreciate that he's both warm and respectful of me as a person, as in, he never tells me what do to or what not to do but offers new ways of thinking about situations or my thoughts that empower me to come up with the best way forward and operate at a higher level than I realized was possible. Plus, he's just pleasant to be around, with a great, warm sense of humor that helps make the journey more enjoyable. I can't recommend Erik enough!" Shannon, San Diego

Your 3-Step Success Plan

My therapy is based on helping you transition into who you want to be and how you want to feel through practiced mindfulness and practical psychological processes, concepts and strategies. I am known for helping people get results. This is how it works.

1

Learn

We will discuss your goals and challenges to create clarity in terms of where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there. In this first step you will gain the conceptual and theoretical knowledge of new behaviors, concepts and strategies.

2

Practice

Your participation in homework and assignments will help develop the skills, mindset, and behaviors that will benefit you personally. In this practical application phase, feedback about successes and challenges are pivotal. With consistent and persistent practice you are reinforcing the success that is well within your reach.
3

Achieve

Finally, we will work on integrating these new behaviors, concepts, and strategies until you master them and they become part of your identity. It is when you identify with the new way of being that you know you have made changes you can count on.
